Stephanie came into Fox Valley Carpenter's Place in September 2007. Stephanie’s main priority has been finding employment. This has been difficult for her because of daycare issues involving her youngest son. Recently Stephanie secured a job but was unable to start due to lack of child care. After experiencing domestic violence and being homeless five times, it is a relief to see Stephanie and her three children currently residing in a transitional living facility that helps homeless women and children that have lost their homes due to abuse. Stephanie has been taking small steps to assure that her and her children have all of their basic needs met. She has a great ability to see the big picture and what needs to be done to make sure that things for her family’s future remain bright. Stephanie recently applied to receive her credit score so she could raise her score and properly maintain a budget. Her Case Manager has found it a pleasure to work with Stephanie as she rises above all her struggles in order to provide a safe environment for her and her children.
Mark came to FVCP in November 2007 seeking help with his mortgage payments, doctor referrals, utility bills assistance, and financial counseling. Mark and his wife are college graduates but found themselves with an extraordinary amount of credit card debt. They consistently are in danger of losing their home. Mark and his FVCP Case Manager set several goals for him, including obtaining financial counseling. He was referred for help in planning family finances and paying off her debts. Recently Mark has reported back to his Case Manager that working with a local financial counseling agency has helped him tremendously. He now knows exactly how much debt he has to pay back and has created a budget to manage his finances better. Mark is a great example of how getting one area of life under control can lead to solving many other issues at the same time.
Guest Susan suffers from many health related issues so it made sense when four of the ten goals she set for herself were targeted at stabilizing and improving her health. Other goals focused on obtaining a job, applying for SSI, taking computer classes, securing an apartment and finding a reliable form of transportation. However, due to Susan’s lack of communication with her Case Manager she was placed on FVCP Inactive Guest List in June 2007.
In January 2008, Susan’s Case Manager called in an attempt to check in on her and to re-establish a relationship. Susan agreed to an appointment with her Case Manager and showed up upbeat and enthusiastic about addressing her goals once again. As it turns out, Susan had completed almost all of them. She found an apartment, secured a job, bought a car, obtained a medical card, started attending a soup kitchen, and received dental work. Susan still has three more goals to work on. She wants to take computer classes, figure out her SSI situation, and get a physical exam. She is very eager to achieve these last three goals and is very proud of herself. |
